The Flagship boat Undine - a classic canal cruise boat from 1920

On a sunny summer day, it is wonderful to be on the sundeck of our semi open boat Undine. If it’s raining, the boat can be fully enclosed and at cooler temperatures we just switch on the heating! At every moment of the day and regardless the weather conditions, this luxury boat will guarantee you the best private boat tour experience in Amsterdam. Unlike in other boats, the Undine does not count to starboard boats, as the steering is situated in the middle of the boat. This setup enables the captain (guide) to sit in the center of the boat and being able to share his local knowledge about the city during the private canal cruise Amsterdam.

Pick up is possible near Central Station, at Oosterdokskade 8. On request, we can also pick up in front of central station or behind central station (at the pier of the Adam Tower). Hotel pick ups are possible upon request too.

Amsterdam reveals itself most beautifully from the water. Every private boat tour follows a route through the historic UNESCO-listed canal belt, taking in some of the city’s most iconic landmarks and hidden waterways. The route below is an example of what a full tour may include — the exact sights visited depend on the duration of your cruise and your personal preferences. Your captain is happy to tailor the route to your wishes, whether you are celebrating a special occasion, exploring at a leisurely pace or keen to discover the lesser-known corners of the city.

What You'll See on your Private Boat Tour Amsterdam

Herengracht — the Gentleman's Canal

The grandest of Amsterdam’s canals, lined with the magnificent Golden Bend mansions built by wealthy 17th-century merchants. Your captain will share the fascinating stories behind these iconic facades as you sail past.

Home to the Anne Frank House and the charming Jordaan district, Prinsengracht offers some of the most atmospheric and intimate stretches of water in the city. A must-see on any private canal tour.

Opening up into a breathtaking panorama, the Amstel River reveals the famous Skinny Bridge, the Magere Brug, and sweeping views of the city’s historic skyline. The perfect moment to raise a glass.

One of Amsterdam’s most beloved vistas — a straight stretch of Reguliersgracht where seven elegant arched bridges align perfectly in a single view. Truly one of the most romantic sights in all of Europe.

Few neighbourhoods in the world carry as much history and intrigue as Amsterdam’s De Wallen. From the water, your captain will guide you through the oldest part of the city, past medieval churches, centuries-old canal houses and the hidden alleyways that have defined Amsterdam’s spirit of tolerance and freedom since the 15th century. A fascinating perspective on one of Europe’s most storied neighbourhoods.

Amsterdam’s canal belt is home to hundreds of historic facades that lean, tilt and curve in every direction — a charming result of soft soil foundations and centuries of natural movement. As you cruise past these iconic crooked houses your captain will point out the most remarkable examples and share the stories behind their unique character. A favourite moment for photographers on board.

Beyond the famous landmarks, your captain will navigate the quieter, lesser-known waterways of the city — the narrow passages, the centuries-old lock houses, and the charming residential canal streets that most visitors never discover.

FAQ

  • Whats is the best time of day to take a private boat tour in Amsterdam?

The best times to avoid crowded canals is for sure before 1pm or after 6pm. Within those times you make sure to avoid getting stuck in traffic. You see more of the canals if you go outside peak hours. Also try to avoid Saturdays if possible. This is the busiest day as a lot of privately owned boats are coming into town as well.

  • Is a private boat tour in Amsterdam worth it?

Our Amsterdam Private Boat Tours are worth it if you prioritize comfort and service above budget and shared crowded boats. We have a fleet of beautifully designed vintage saloon boats. Some are historic classic boats from 1912 - 1920! The captain can also be your local guide if preferred.

  • Do your boats have a restroom on board?

Our saloon boat Ritz has a restroom on board. With the Tzar and Undine boat, we can always make a stop if needed (for example during a dinner cruise when we stop at our preferred partner restaurant) - so you can use their washroom facility.

  • Does your private boat offer hotel pick ups?

Customized pick ups are possible upon request only. We can pick up at Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Pulitzer, Hotel Estheria, Rosewood Hotel, Hotel de l'Europe, Sofitel The Grand, Andaz, Hyatt, Amstel Hotel, Pillows Hotel Mauritskade, The Dylan and some more. If your hotel is not located on a canal, we can find the closest pick up point together. • Are the boats wheelchair accessible?
