Ask the question on your own historic saloon boat, drifting past candlelit canal houses with nobody else on board. Roses, Champagne, a live violinist and a photographer to catch the moment, all arranged before you step aboard.
Amsterdam's canal belt was made for this. Seventeenth-century houses lean over the water, bridges arc overhead strung with lights, and the whole city softens once you drop below street level. On a private boat there are no crowds to work around and no restaurant tables listening in, just your captain at the wheel and the two of you.
Tell us where along the route you'd like to ask, and your captain will slow the boat at exactly that bridge. Or leave it open and let the evening decide.
Candlelight, the table set, the canal houses sliding past, this is the setting your proposal happens in.
Each of these is set up before you arrive, so the boat already looks the part the moment you step on. Extras are charged separately and need to be requested ahead of time.
A photographer on board for an hour, catching the question, the answer and the ring, discreetly, from the moment before you ask.
A violinist playing on board as you cruise, in the background, or striking up the moment you go down on one knee.
Gruet from 75 €, Veuve Clicquot 115 €, Ruinart Blanc de Blancs 170 €, Dom Pérignon 380 € and Louis Roederer Cristal 550 €. See the drinks menu.
Turn it into a full evening with a 2, 3 or 4-course private dinner cruise from canal-side restaurants. Around 45–75 € per person depending on courses.
Give us a signal in advance, a word, a gesture, and your captain will slow the boat at the right bridge and stay out of frame.
This is what a fully dressed proposal cruise looks like: the table laid with rose petals, Champagne poured, heart balloons above, and a violinist a metre away. Everything visible here can be arranged for your booking, just tell us which pieces you want.
All three are historic saloon boats, fully private, heated and covered, so the plan holds in any weather. The difference is how much distance you want between you and the captain.
Sliding roof over the heated indoor area and a fully open front deck with an unobstructed view. Two steering wheels mean your captain can steer from inside while you sit out front, alone.
View Tzar →A 1920 classic with an open sundeck that closes and heats up in minutes. Intimate and warm, ideal if it's just the two of you and you want a guided route along the way.
View Undine →A 1915 mahogany saloon with a restroom on board and more distance between captain and guests, the one to pick if you're proposing in front of family or a larger group.
View Ritz →The private boat starts from €250 for the first hour, including your captain and one non-alcoholic welcome drink per guest, VAT and tourist tax. Every extra 30 minutes is €90. We recommend 90 minutes to 2 hours for a proposal, long enough that the moment doesn't feel rushed, and long enough to celebrate afterwards.

Choose Tzar, Undine or Ritz and a start time. Sunset and after dark are the most popular slots, they book out first.
Roses, decoration, Champagne, photographer, violinist, dinner. We confirm what's available for your date.
Settle on a cue with your captain so the boat slows and the photographer is ready at exactly the right moment.
Golden hour gives you warm light on the canal houses and the best photographs, the single most requested slot. Ask us for the current sunset time and we'll build the cruise around it.
After dark is quieter on the water, with the bridges lit up and reflections on the canals. From late November to mid-January the Amsterdam Light Festival adds illuminated artworks along the route.
Any season works. The boats are heated with covered cabins, so a winter proposal is just as comfortable, and the canals are emptier.
The private boat starts from €250 for the first hour including captain, welcome drink and tax, with each extra 30 minutes at €90. Decoration (rose petals and four heart balloons) is 30 €, twenty red roses 90 €, a photographer 290 €, a violinist 390 € and Champagne from 75 €, all charged separately.
Ninety minutes to two hours works best. An hour is enough to ask, but a slightly longer cruise leaves room to settle in first and celebrate afterwards without watching the clock.
Yes, this is routine for us. Agree a signal in advance and your captain will slow the boat at the right spot, cue the violinist or photographer, and otherwise stay quietly out of the way.
Tzar is our most-booked proposal boat: the open front deck gives you an unobstructed view, and with two steering wheels the captain can steer from inside while you sit outside alone. Undine suits an intimate cruise for two, and Ritz gives the most distance from the captain for larger groups.
Yes. Our boats take 2 to 12 guests depending on the vessel, so a proposal in front of family works well, Ritz is the roomiest choice and has a restroom on board.
Standard departure is Oosterdokskade 8, a short walk from Amsterdam Central Station. Pickup from selected canal-side hotels can often be arranged, a minimum cruise duration or small surcharge may apply depending on the location.
The plan holds. All three boats have heated, covered or fully enclosed areas, so proposals go ahead in rain and cold. Some couples prefer it, the canals are quieter and the reflections are better.
As early as you can, especially for a sunset slot or if you want a violinist or photographer, both depend on availability. Cancel up to 14 days before for a 90% refund; within 14 days the booking is non-refundable, though we'll try to reschedule where our planning allows.
Tell us the date and we'll take care of the rest, the boat, the roses, the Champagne, the violinist and a captain who knows exactly when to slow down. From €250.
